Q: Known Issues Q: I have Windows Vista. When clicking the desktop shortcut, nothing happens! Q: When I try to launch the game I get the following error:"Debugger detected - please close it down and restart. Windows NT users: Please note that having the WinIce/SoftIce service installed means that you are running a debugger." I do not believe I am running a debugger. What could be the problem? A: This error is caused by DivX 5.1. The issue you have mentioned is a bug in this release of the DivX codec. The codec is actually what`s showing the error, and shutting down Blaze Media Pro because it is erroneously detecting the software as a debugger. You can resolve the issue by updating to DivX 5.1.1 at the DivX website and you will no longer have this problem. If you do still have any problems please contact our Technical Support team.
Q: Known Issues A: Known Issues
Q. No reflections/dirt build-up with Radeon 7xxx, GeForce 1, 2 or 4MX graphics cards. A. These cards do not support the necessary pixel and vertex shaders required to display these effects. We recommend a non-MX GeForce 3 or Radeon 8xxx or above is used to play the game. Q. Jerky menus/gameplay under Windows 98SE/ME. A. Set the hard drive to operate in DMA mode. To do this, right-click on the "My Computer" icon (found on the desktop) and select "Properties". A new window will open. Select the "Device Manager" tab and expand the "Disk Drives" heading by clicking on the '+' icon next to it. Now right-click on the disk drive that corresponds to your hard drive and select "Properties". Choose the "Settings" tab. If your hard drive supports DMA access mode, check the box next to it and click OK. You will need to restart your computer for changes to take effect. Q. Discoloured (purple or green) car shadows. A. This is a known issue and may be fixed in a future driver release from nVidia. Q. Slow-down with Intel SoundMAX integrated audio in Windows 98SE/ME. A. This is a known issue. A large amount of data must be streamed from the hard drive to the sound card, which is done less efficiently by Windows 98SE/ME. Q. Slow-down with SB PCI in Windows 98SE/ME. A. This is a known issue. A large amount of data must be streamed from the hard drive to the sound card, which is done less efficiently by Windows 98SE/ME. Q. Corruption in trees with SiS Xabre. A. This is a known driver issue and may be fixed in a future driver release from ATi. For now we recommend you play at a lower resolution and/or FSAA setting. Q. Crash occurs during spin sequence at the beginning of a stage. A. Start the game with the STATICBUFFERS command-line switch. See the section "Command-Line Options" above for more information regarding this. Q. Crash occurs setting very high resolution and FSAA settings. A. This is a known issue. We recommend lowering the resolution and/or FSAA setting should this occur. If the game reports "Mode not supported" upon trying to restart, use the RESETDISPLAY command-line switch to return graphics settings to their default. See the section "Command-Line Options" above for more information regarding this. Q. The controller settings are not saved - especially Deadzone or Saturation settings. A. If you create a saved game - e.g. start a championship (it will automatically save) - then this should solve this problem. Q. The games occasionally pauses or lags, causing the car to jerk or stutter. A. The problem may be related to your soundcard: Try the following: Edit your Colin McRae Rally 4 Windows shortcut (found on the desktop and/or the start menu) by right clicking on it and selecting properties. A. Colin McRae Rally 4 uses EAX 4. Currently only the Soundblaster Audigy series of cards (excluding the Audigy 2 LS and NX) running under Windows 2000 or Windows XP support this feature. If you do not have one of these cards, or use Windows 98/ME, you will not be able to turn EAX on. Q. How do you set up a controller in Colin McRae Rally 4? A. Firstly make sure that your controller is plugged in and functioning correctly in Windows. Highlight the 'Input Device' option and press your right cursor key to change the option from Keyboard.
Q. The game loads to a black screen and either hangs or crashes back to the desktop. Or, the game crashes in Championship mode at the Upgrades screen. A. Try the following: Edit your Colin McRae Rally 4 Windows shortcut (found on the desktop and/or the start menu) by right clicking on it and selecting properties. In the target box, add NOVIDEO after the target entry, so the target looks like this: Q: I have Windows Vista. When clicking the desktop shortcut, nothing happens! A: This is due to Vista's UAC. The following instructions will allow you to run the game.
Once your PC has restarted, you should be able to play the game. |

Creative SoundBlaster Audigy Drivers If you are using a Creative SoundBlaster Audigy 1 or 2, please ensure you are using the latest driver pack for full EAX4-enabled sound. These can be found on the disc in the following directories (where D is the drive letter of your DVD drive): D:\Creative\Audigy1\2kXP D:\Creative\Audigy2\98ME - for Windows 98SE/ME systems You can install the Audigy Driver on your system even if you have not installed any Audigy drivers previously. THE FOLLOWING APPLIES TO AUDIGY 1 OWNERS ONLY... If you have previously installed any of the applications listed below, you will also need to install the respective application update(s) to ensure correct functionality. You can find Creative software application updates in the folder: D:\Creative\Audigy1\2kxp\Applications Update Creative Audio HQ - AHQ20031017.exe (6.84 MB) Please check the Creative website for future driver and software updates.
Fixed Server - This enables the user to join an Internet game directly without the need to search beforehand. To use simply select the Fixed Server option from the Network menu. Then enter the IP address and the Port of the game you wish to join and press
The default keyboard controls are given below.
Colin McRae Rally 04 requires at least 256MB of RAM and a 750MHz processor; the performance of the game will improve if you have more RAM, a faster processor and graphics card. Regardless of your machine specs, you can maximize your available memory and increase the overall performance of the game by doing the following:
GRAPHICS CARDS Colin McRae Rally 04 requires a graphics card with 3D hardware acceleration and at least 32 MB of RAM. The drivers for your graphics card must support DirectX 9 or higher. If you are having any problems running the game, please ensure you have updated your graphics card drivers before contacting technical 3Dfx cards - 3Dfx cards are not officially supported. PLEASE NOTE: If you choose to install new 3Dfx drivers, you do so at your own risk! SOUND CARDS If you are experiencing sound abnormalities such as clicking and popping, you may need to turn off sound hardware acceleration. Creative SoundBlaster AWE 32 and AWE 64 known issues: These older cards do not perform hardware mixing and are particularly prone to poor performance with sound hardware acceleration turned on. Go to Start, Control Panel, Sound, then find the sound/audio hardware acceleration setting and turn it off. Occasionally, some users may experience poor audio quality when using an onboard nForce sound card in conjunction with certain graphics cards.
To run the game with one of the options below, right-click on the desktop shortcut to the game, and select 'Properties'. The command line options are as follows: "NOSOUND" -> Forces sounds to be switched off. "NOEAX" -> Disables EAX sound effects. "NOHARDWARESOUND" -> Forces sounds to be played in software only. "ALLOWHARDWARESOUND" -> Allows the use of hardware sound playback in Win9X/ME. Enable this if you have an nForce sound device and you are using Windows 9X/ME. "NOVIDEO" -> Disabled videos. "LQVIDEO" -> Forces the use of low-quality videos. "HQVIDEO" -> Forces the use of high-quality videos. "ANALOGUECONTROLS" -> Explained below. "RESETCONTROLS" -> Resets controls settings to default. "STATICBUFFERS" -> Set this to fix the GeForce 4 MX440 crash bug for nVidia drivers below version 43.80. "NOSHADERS" -> Forces the game to use the Fixed Vertex Function render path (i.e. removes all pixel shader effects). "RESETDISPLAY" -> Resets video settings to default. "FORCECLIPPING" -> Enables 3D clipping on every object. Some very old graphics cards may require this. "MULTIMONITOR" -> Allows the use of widescreen video modes if your display adapter is set up as a single device controlling multiple monitors. "FORCEHT" -> Forces the rendering of extra particles that appear by default on CPUs with HyperThreading. "DISABLEHT" -> Disables the rendering of extra particles that appear by default on CPUs with HyperThreading. "RESETNETWORK" -> Resets network settings to default. "NOMULTIINSTANCE" -> Disallows multiple instances of the shader object renderer. "SAFEMODE" -> Runs in safe mode. This is the same as running with all of the following options: RESETDISPLAY, NOSHADERS, NOSOUND, NOVIDEO, RESETCONTROLS, FORCECLIPPING and RESETNETWORK. Note. If you use 'NOVIDEO' the front-end/attract video still plays, but only the audio. This then keeps the game background music. If the 'NOSOUND' option is also set then the movie is fully disabled.
1. Steering Wheels There are two different ways in which the pedals might be configured through Windows itself. The most common of which uses a single axis for both pedals. This is the setup default in the game. Users of these controllers can just go straight through the controller options screen and play immediately. If the pedals are configured as two different axes (All Microsoft and Logitech steering wheels allow this as do most others), then the key definitions for accelerate and brake must be reconfigured. 2. Controller menu options The following options are only available when not using the keyboard for control: Analogue steering and acc/brake - governs whether the steering will be controlled by a button (digital) or by a d-pad on a controller. The key configuration screen which follows will then only accept setup from that type of control. Flip acc/brake: This is most useful on steering wheels where the pedals operate in reverse (i.e. when fully depressed they report no value and when released report full) - this can be seen either in the appropriate dialogue box in the Gaming Controllers option in the control panel or in the in-game axis calibration screen. This can also be used for reversing the axis if using a d-pad up/down for accelerate and brake. 3. Calibration Deadzone - This is a zone within an axis range that is interpreted as being at rest. A range is given here, as slight movements on the controller around the rest state should not trigger actions. In the case of steering wheels, it is greatly advised that the deadzone is set as low as possible. Saturation - This is the point on an axis at which it is defined as being at full range. Again, bringing this closer to centre for steering wheels is advised to reduce the amount of turn a wheel needs to be at full lock. 4. Analogue controls command line Using 'ANALOGUECONTROLS' on the command line will force analogue. Setting the steering to analogue will increase the responsiveness of the steering. Moving the controller to full lock will mean that the car wheels will immediately go to full lock. This should provide a more accurate, but challenging driving experience. No game controller should be either added or removed once the game has been started.
The vast majority of problems that you are likely to encounter are probably related to drivers that allow the game to make optimum use of your systems resources. In particular, video games are most influenced by Microsoft's DirectX drivers, which are responsible for various aspects of your system including: video, sound, controller input, 3D graphic functions, CD-ROM access and other functions. If you do experience problems, always ensure that you are using the latest drivers for these devices, and that your DirectX installation shows these devices as being certified (with DXDIAG).
Make sure that the CD-ROM disc is in the correct drive, with the label facing upwards. The CD-ROM disc must be in the drive to install or run the game. If you have two CD-ROM drives, the CD must be placed in the drive whose drive letter comes alphabetically first for the game to work.
Make sure that your speakers or headphones are plugged into the correct socket, and that the volume control is at an appropriate level. If you are using powered speakers, ensure that the power is on. If you continue to experience problems, ensure that the Volume Control taskbar icon (depicted by a small yellow speaker) is present. Double-clicking this icon will open the Volume Control window. Make sure that the Wave and Master Volume controls are set at an appropriate level and that the Mute feature is not enabled. |
