Troubleshooting
Sound Options WLS 98 allows you to scale the quality of the sound played in game between simple mono samples and stereo surround sound using software synthesised midi. Increasing the quality of the sound will increase the amount of CPU time needed for the sound playback. Mono samples use approximately 2% of the CPU time on a Pentium 166 whereas surround stereo using midi can use upto 15% but will greatly increase the realism of the sound. Direct3D Configuration: To run the Direct3D Configuration program, select the 'D3D Config' button from the autorun dialog box. What is the program for? We have spent a great deal of time making sure that whichever graphics card chip set you have, World League Soccer '98 will perform at its best. If you know which chip set or graphics card is in your machine, it would be worth your while to select that graphics card/chip set from the list available, as giving this information could iron out any graphical problems you may otherwise encounter. If you aren't sure which graphics card/chip set you have, choose the 'Automatic Selection' process. DLL Selection: You will notice that the setup program offers you the choice to install various different versions of WLS '98. These versions allow support for the main graphic standards available, these include a 3dfx version, a general Direct3D version and a software only version of the game. These different versions of the game come in the form of a file with a ".dll" (dynamic linked library) extension. These files are only about 200k in size, so installing all three of the standard versions takes up a very small amount of your hard disk space. In the future it is likely that we will release updates, these updated versions will come in the form of a "dll" file, this will allow support for new graphic cards as they become available. If you copy a new dll into the dll directory which is located off of the root directory you initially installed the game to, the autorun dialog box will detect the new dll and offer you the choice to run the new version. Joystick Setup Joystick setup and calibration should be done in the Windows control panel. This can be found from the Windows Start Menu by selecting 'Settings','Control Panel','Game Controllers'. The button mappings displayed in the 'Properties' correspond to the mappings displayed in the WLS '98 frontend controller menu. Save Game/Options If you have used the WLS '98 save game facility, you can find the actual save game files in a directory called 'saves' which is located off of the root directory you initially installed the game to. The approximate size of the save game files is 16K. There is no limit to the number of files you can save other than available hard disk space. It is safe to manually delete save game files, however if you rename a save game file it must begin with 'WLS' for the game to recognise it as a valid save game. |
