Troubleshooting

General known issues

Optimizing gameplay on slower computers
If you are experiencing slowdown during gameplay, try adjusting the GFX and SFX detail levels for all graphical options down to "low", and then adjusting options one by one until you achieve an acceptable balance between visual quality and game performance.
Some rules on graphic settings:
  • with 512 MB ram and/or slow GPU, please use the "low" settings
  • with 768 MB ram and/or medium GPU, please use the "medium" settings
  • with 1024 MB ram, you can use all "high" settings (recommended if you have a Radeon 9800 Pro or GeForce 6600)
  • with 1024 MB ram or more, you can use "very high" settings (even recommended if you have a PC with high end components)
With 512 MB of RAM you may experience some pausing during gameplay when Windows is swapping memory to the disk. Please disable your anti-virus application and terminate all other applications, including those running invisibly in the background.

General hint on optimizing gameplay
With less than 1024 MB ram, try to avoid using
  • High texture quality
  • Normal Lighting
  • Slider positions on Vegetation LOD
  • Long distance at static geometry loading distance
  • The character LOD is completely depending on the power of your GPU. Grass range and/or grass density can considerably decrease your frame rate in the jungle.
Generally speaking, with less than 1GB of RAM, it is recommended you set the virtual memory to a page file size with a starting value of 1,5 GB.

Messages that you can encounter depending on the Operating System
  • Under XP Sp2 and using MS Firewall, the first time you start the game, a message will ask you if you like to allow xenus.exe to pass the firewall. This version of Boiling Point will not attempt to send or receive any data from internet. You can either accept or refuse the game to pass the firewall, it will have no impact on your system.
  • Under Windows 2000 and 512 MB ram, a message may appear after a few minutes of gameplay. This message will inform you about the insufficiency of virtual memory and will remain in the background.

Video issues

Outdated or incorrect video drivers are the cause of the majorityof video issues. Before contacting support, ensure you have the latest production (release) drivers for your video card.
As is noted in the minimum requirements not all video cards have hardware vertex and pixel shader support even though they have the required video memory available. Here is a non-exhaustive list of video cards that are not supported:

Display issues
Some graphical problems have been noticed with Video Card "S3 DeltaChrome" : a grey screen appears for a few seconds before the game loads. Sometimes, some textures can appear with a whitish-blue overlay around the character.
Depending on the situation, some text overlapping can be noticed, especially in the "hint" boxes.
It has been also mentioned that buttons in the main menu could appear as being black boxes. This is not consistent and has been rarely reproduced. Anyway if this occurs on your PC, please make sure you have the latest available video drivers installed on your machine.
